She was in final prep for a local fitness competition plus she wanted to honor her mom.
Danielle was the second person involved in my latest duo super session, along with her friend Shelley. These are her images and story.
I love helping people see themselves in a new light. I truly believe we are our own worst enemies when it comes to our self image. When we look at ourselves in the bathroom mirror at 7 am all we see are the “flaws” and “issues.” We never see the truth, the good.
Shelley was part of a duo session. She and her friend Danielle teamed up to do a super session as part of their work-up for a local fitness competition. Danielle’s images will be posted later. This is all about Shelley.
Therefore I’m going to let her talk first.
“I was absolutely blown away by Mark’s professionalism and amazing photography skills. We did the shoot one week prior to a bodybuilding competition that I competed in and it was the greatest confidence boost that I needed right before stepping on stage. Mark truly captured the rough and hard beauty for the fitness photos and then we ended our session at First Landing with the most unique sunset I have ever seen. I have never felt so beautiful, confident, and feminine. Mark is truly an amazing photographer and I would recommend him to anyone. I have already started to plan my next shoot with Mark!”
She is proof that female fitness enthusiasts are badass and feminine.
Severine is no stranger to this page. She is an avid Bikram yoga instructor and bikini competitor – not to mention sublimely beautiful. She carries herself with amazing grace and has a quick smile that is genuine. So when she told me she was going to be in town the day after her most recent bikini competition I cleared the calendar.
When I get the chance to work with someone as fit as her I think about bricks and grit. The juxtaposition of smooth skin and tight muscles plays well against the rough textures and edginess of an urban environment. This leads me to the back alleys of downtown Norfolk.
She was primed for her first fitness competition at the Norfolk Grand Prix.
Lexi should not be a stranger to the regular readers of this blog. She is, without a doubt, one of my favorite people to work with. Period. We have joined forces several times in the past and the images are always one of the most viewed on here. When she dropped me a line saying she was going to be in the area for a fitness competition and wanted images done before the big show I literally said “Oh hell yes” out loud before typing my response.
The couple that works out together gets fit together
I recently had a fitness photo session with Whitney and her beau Angelo at The Gym Downtown in Norfolk. The couple met while working out 6 months ago and share a passion for fitness and health. They spend time together working on fitness skills and meal prepping while supporting each other in competitions. It’s gotten to the point where they are about to start a couple’s training class.
I recently met and worked with Amira Juma. During our session we discussed her journey as a fitness instructor and cancer survivor.
She was in the naval officers program, and already a fitness buff, when she began to experience symptoms of itching, loss of appetite, trouble breathing, and night sweats. After 2 misdiagnosis a CT scan on November 12, 2012 confirmed late, aggressive stage 3 cancer. She had 5 masses, each the size of an egg – one on her esophagus, one on her heart, one on her lung, and two next to her kidneys.
