A personal branding session built around growth and transformation.
Sometimes a portrait session is about more than just getting nice pictures. Sometimes it marks a turning point in someone’s life. That was exactly the case with Tracie’s sunrise session at Yorktown Beach.
Tracie is stepping into a brand new chapter both professionally and personally. She is advancing her career, is preparing for a move to the west coast, and is coming out of a long-term relationship. That is a lot of change all at once. Instead of letting the moment pass by, she wanted to document it for herself. She also wanted images she could use for personal branding as she starts this next phase of life.

When we talked about locations, Tracie immediately mentioned the water. She said she feels the most at peace near the beach, so Yorktown Beach became the obvious choice. We planned a Sunday sunrise session because early morning light along the water has a calm, honest feeling to it. The beach is quieter at that hour and the light wraps around people in a soft, natural way that is hard to duplicate later in the day.
The session itself had a relaxed feel from the start. Some images were quiet and reflective while other moments felt stronger and more confident. That mix is important because real people are never just one thing. Big life transitions usually come with excitement, uncertainty, relief, hope, and nervousness all at the same time.

I also wanted the session to feel authentic to who she is right now. The casual clothing, boots in the sand, wind moving through her hair, and natural expressions all helped tell the story. The goal was to create portraits that looked and felt like Tracie rather than forcing her into some fake version of herself.
As always, I converted some images into black and white as they strip away distractions and put more attention on expression and emotion. They gave the session a timeless feel that matched the personal nature of this moment in her life.

One thing I always remind people is that portrait photography is not only about how someone looks. It is about where they are in life. Years from now, these images will remind Tracie not only of what she looked like during this season, but who she was becoming.
Big changes can be scary, but they can also be the start of something better. I think this session captured that perfectly.

If you are going through a major life change, starting a new career path, building a business, or simply want portraits that actually feel like you, let’s create something together. Portrait sessions should tell your story, not someone else’s idea of who you are.
