Von and Robert’s Nordic wedding at First Landing.

I couldn’t say yes fast enough.

I’ve been in the wedding business for about 30 years now. Done the big ones of over 300 guests. Done the small ones that had 12 people total in the whole event. Big churches and small cabins in the woods. Winter, spring, summer, and fall – I’ve done them all. Or so I thought. Von and Robert’s Nordic wedding ceremony was a first and it was an honor to be part of it.

They wanted a Nordic wedding because it went with their beliefs. We went over the details in the pre-wedding consultation so that I knew what was important to capture. I took lots of notes. The couple rented a cabin at First Landing State Park to prep and to hold the Reception. The ceremony was held beach-side.

I could write a book about the ins and outs of the event. For example, there was a High Priest and Priestess. Michael Greth, the Best Man, and current Drighten (Leader) of Eastern Beach Kindred, hallowed the space at the beginning, making it sacred. As Thor is the protector of Midgard, their realm, he did a Hammer Rite to make the area safe.

The couple took three oaths. The weapon oath was where they traded weapons as a way to pledge to protect their home. They also took the ring oath, and a personal oath. When it was over, the party returned to the cabin to celebrate.

This event dovetailed perfectly with my concept of Sincere Weddings which is what I love covering.

Erin’s Trash the Dress session at the Virginia Beach oceanfront.

The rebirth of Erin, in her own words.

I’m turning this over to her so she can tell you about our Trash the Dress photo session.

My name is Erin, I’m 32, and am going through a divorce. With that being said, the split has been very amicable and we still remain good friends. However, people don’t get divorced for no reason and I had some feelings about it. Our wedding was exactly what I wanted, and so was the DRESS. I hadn’t even gotten it all the way on at the bridal shop and knew it was the one. But life happens and here we are.

I had heard of the trash the dress concept years ago, and loved it but had honestly forgotten about it. That was until my best friend, who also just got divorced, sent me some pictures of other women’s experiences and I knew it had to happen. My mind went straight to Mark, who I’ve known for years. There was no one else for the job, and he didn’t hesitate when I asked. It was meant to be.

Terri and Steve’s Sincere Wedding.

The couple exchanged vows at the Virginia Beach Resort Hotel and Conference Center.

I don’t promote it but I still do the occasional wedding for the right couple. Terri and Steve were just that. When we met at a local bookstore to talk about their upcoming nuptials, it was instant connection.

They were so easy going and fun to be with. We were on the same wavelength. Three peas in the same pod. I knew within a matter of seconds that it was a definite yes for me. It was not the first time for either one and their entire guest list, including the wedding party, was 24 people. They were going to exchange vows on the beach on a Sunday. The reception was to be held at the convention center during their brunch.

This fit perfectly with my concept of Sincere Weddings which is what I love covering.

Welcoming Summer 2017 Sessions.

It’s time to head outdoors and create unique images that will be cherished for generations.

Yep, it’s time to take the show on the road. Time to hit local and regional locations to use as backdrops for your portrait session. While I love working inside, the great outdoors appeals to me in so many different ways. We use the power of different environments to add depth to a scene and to inspire us as we work.

Most importantly, we use it to awe the viewers when it’s all said and done.

Brittany and Dalton’s engagement session at First Landing.

He literally went the extra mile to propose to her.

Britany and Dalton are a fun couple. They reached out to me to photograph their engagement photos but they warned me they were looking for something a little different. They had me at “different.”

I’ll let Britany explain:

I’ve loved to run since I was 14. It’s a part of my life. Dalton has always hated running and would never go with me. I attempted to get him to go with me at least once a week.

Welcoming Spring back to Virginia Beach.

It’s been far too long since we last met. Here’s what’s in the works for the upcoming season.

In celebration of the death of Winter I’m posting some of the greatest hits from last year’s sessions. It is only a matter of time before we can head back outside and create even more magical images. I am not the same photographer that I was last season. I’ve grown skill-wise and want to stretch and use the new photographic muscles

On a personal level, I’m celebrating the impending arrival of a studio backdrop and other equipment in an effort to rebuild a small studio space at my place. I used to have one when I lived in upstate NY but it got destroyed in the move.

Having this small studio will allow me to create more fine art style images as well as fitness images, headshots, fashion and such. Recent forays into short video has shown a potential new route for me to take and this space will help with that. It also will become a default “Plan B” in case bad weather ruins a location session.

So, the future is looking bright. I hope you join me as I explore and grow.

It’s that time of year.

Gearing up for another portrait season outside.

Things are finally warming up out there which means a return to outdoor sessions. Personally, I’m counting the days until I can return to the beach and other wonderful locations.

I’m also building a small studio set up at my place in case the weather won’t cooperate or a client wants studio portraits done. I’m posting an image from a test run I did here recently.

That being said here’s a reminder of just what kind of portrait sessions I offer. These can be done on location or at my place:
