Carrie’s farm portrait session in Virginia Beach.

“Hey Mark, I have an idea” are my favorite words to hear.

It’s been far too long since I had the honor of working with Carrie so when she reached out to me recently with an idea to do a fashion session on a local farm I couldn’t say “yes” fast enough.

You see, I’m a farm boy born and raised so this was a homecoming of sorts.

I know I’m known for sessions at the beach as well as in urban environments. However, when the world is your backdrop anything and everything becomes an option. All we need is an idea and we are off to the races.

Jessica Magary’s recent beach portrait session in Virginia Beach.

Two milestones achieved in one epic session.

When one gets a new camera and wants to kick off version 3.0 of your photographic career the right way, there was only one logical choice for a subject and location. Jessica Magary on the beach. It’s almost impossible to match up schedules, but when we do, it’s glorious.

As one famous movie character once said “We goes along like peas and carrots.” You can see images from several previous sessions on this page by using the search feature.

Shelley’s fitness super session in Norfolk and Virginia Beach.

She was in final prep for a fitness competition.

Shelley was part of a duo session. She and her friend Danielle teamed up to do a super session as part of their work-up for a local fitness competition. Danielle’s images will be posted later. This is all about Shelley.

Therefore I’m going to let her talk first.

“I was absolutely blown away by Mark’s professionalism and amazing photography skills. We did the shoot one week prior to a bodybuilding competition that I competed in and it was the greatest confidence boost that I needed right before stepping on stage. Mark truly captured the rough and hard beauty for the fitness photos and then we ended our session at First Landing with the most unique sunset I have ever seen. I have never felt so beautiful, confident, and feminine. Mark is truly an amazing photographer and I would recommend him to anyone. I have already started to plan my next shoot with Mark!”

Jinelle’s portrait session at First Landing.

Conformity is the enemy.

I have known Jinelle for a while now. She’s a fashion model in the local scene but I know her as she was part of my Power project over a year ago. We’ve remained in contact since then. She is a budding photography enthusiast and has been taking lessons to improve her imagery and editing skills.

She is a Renaissance woman. She works on her own truck, does woodworking, and goes camping almost every weekend among other things. She’s also, at almost six feet tall and in great shape, a classic beauty. There is no doubt in my mind that, if she was alive at the time, she would have been a model for a sculptor like Michelangelo.

Welcoming Summer 2017 Sessions.

It’s time to head outdoors and create unique images that will be cherished for generations.

Yep, it’s time to take the show on the road. Time to hit local and regional locations to use as backdrops for your portrait session. While I love working inside, the great outdoors appeals to me in so many different ways. We use the power of different environments to add depth to a scene and to inspire us as we work.

Most importantly, we use it to awe the viewers when it’s all said and done.

So let me take a moment to remind everyone what I offer. I have extensive experience in the following: Continue reading

Kristin Bauer is my WCW for today.

You know the saying about the right people will show up in your life exactly when you need them? Kristin is one of those people.

We are going back to the beginning of my portrait career for this one. I won’t mention how long we’ve known each other but it’s been a while. I was a newbie to the game, a babe in the woods. I didn’t know what I wanted or how to do a thing. I just knew I wanted to be a portrait photographer.

She was a known NYC runway and fashion model who, from what I can tell, took pity on me as I had nothing to offer her in terms of quality images. She was born and raised in my area and would come home to visit from time to time. We linked up whenever she did.

Wesley’s portrait session.

This one isn’t going to be easy for me to write.

People know me as a portrait photographer. I’ve written about the deeper satisfaction I get when working with people as subjects in the past so I won’t get into it here. I also adore photographing relationships. I love exploring the inner workings and intimate moments

Viewers here might remember Sydney. She’s an awesome friend who reached out to me to photograph her and various critters for her Clever Critters business (https://www.facebook.com/Clever-Critters-107466329295241/?pnref=about.overview) a few years ago. When she contacted me a few weeks ago I figured she wanted to do some new images.

She might as well have punched me in the gut. Her dear, sweet puppy Wesley was diagnosed with terminal cancer and she was wondering if I would meet up and take some images of him for her.
