Terri and Steve’s Sincere Wedding.

The couple exchanged vows at the Virginia Beach Resort Hotel and Conference Center.

I don’t promote it but I still do the occasional wedding for the right couple. Terri and Steve were just that. When we met at a local bookstore to talk about their upcoming nuptials, it was instant connection.

They were so easy going and fun to be with. We were on the same wavelength. Three peas in the same pod. I knew within a matter of seconds that it was a definite yes for me. It was not the first time for either one and their entire guest list, including the wedding party, was 24 people. They were going to exchange vows on the beach on a Sunday. The reception was to be held at the convention center during their brunch.

This fit perfectly with my concept of Sincere Weddings which is what I love covering.

Welcoming Spring back to Virginia Beach.

It’s been far too long since we last met. Here’s what’s in the works for the upcoming season.

In celebration of the death of Winter I’m posting some of the greatest hits from last year’s sessions. It is only a matter of time before we can head back outside and create even more magical images. I am not the same photographer that I was last season. I’ve grown skill-wise and want to stretch and use the new photographic muscles

On a personal level, I’m celebrating the impending arrival of a studio backdrop and other equipment in an effort to rebuild a small studio space at my place. I used to have one when I lived in upstate NY but it got destroyed in the move.

Having this small studio will allow me to create more fine art style images as well as fitness images, headshots, fashion and such. Recent forays into short video has shown a potential new route for me to take and this space will help with that. It also will become a default “Plan B” in case bad weather ruins a location session.

So, the future is looking bright. I hope you join me as I explore and grow.

Photographing small, intimate events is in my blood.

There was a time, not too long ago, when I made my photographic living covering weddings. Every year I would book about a dozen or so ceremonies in the very short season of upstate New York. I lived the wedding photographer’s life for just over a decade.

I won’t lie, doing them was hard work. You are on your feet six, eight, or more hours. You are constantly “on” as you move about. I often joke that the most important piece of non-photographic equipment a wedding photographer needs is a good pair of shoes because you are going to putting some serious hours in them and miles on them.

Stress is something that I’ve came to terms with a long time ago and made friends with. Stress keeps you on your toes and ready for everything. Bad things are going to happen at the worst time. The key to survival in this game is planning on them and being ready when they do pop up.

Despite all that,  I loved every single one that I covered. I can sit back, even now, and remember moments from every one I’ve done.

Amy and Carl’s Wedding Day

Sincere Wedding at Maymont Park in Richmond, Virginia

Amy and Carl asked me to photograph their big day at Maymont Park in Richmond, Virginia a couple weeks ago. Given that I’ve worked with them before and think they are wonderful people to be with I knew it would be a blast to be part of and said yes without hesitation. I wasn’t disappointed.
