Throwback Thursday for October 8th, 2015.

Throwing it back to one of my all-time favorite models, Ryann S.

Ryann and I met while we both lived in central NY. At that point she was thinking of becoming a model but didn’t have much experience and wasn’t sure it was for her. After swapping a few emails and private messages, we agreed to do a test session. Within 10 minutes of working with her at my place I knew she was someone special.

Sometimes, when you work with the right person, they elevate you and your work. I mean literally elevate. All of my senses are heightened and I buzz with energy I don’t normally have. There are moments, when I see an image coalesce in my viewfinder, that I forget to breath. They are very rare. Ryann was one of those few.

Ryann and I worked together several times in the next couple of years before I moved to Virginia. She went on to be one of the more successful models I’ve known, travelling up and down the east coast for sessions. She eventually moved to Washington, DC, to be more centrally located for sessions.

We met up again after along separation for a session in the summer of 2014. In a heartbeat the time apart melted away and it felt like we never missed a beat. We had both grown in our craft since the last time and it showed in the images. I’ll post an example or two from that session later.

The image posted here was from our third session, I believe. 2003 or 2004 I’m thinking. A little more conceptual than my typical stuff but that’s the magic of a great model. Working with them opens doors to creativity you never thought of.

I can’t wait to meet up with her again in the future. It will happen, I have no doubt.
