I go the extra mile for those that go the extra mile to work with me.
Jollene is always one of those that I must work with whenever I go back home to Oswego, New York. She can be regal and aloof and switch to downright alluring in the blink of an eye. She comes prepared and loaded for bear. There’s a lot of talent packed into that fun-sized frame of hers and I know I will be getting something great from our time together.
I like to schedule our times together near the end of my stay so that I have some experience with local conditions and have tried a few things out beforehand so I know what I’m doing. I like ending things with a bang and ending my visit with a session with her always puts the cherry on the top of my ice cream sundae.
What makes her stand out is the fact that she drives almost 2 hours to join me on the shores of Lake Ontario for our sessions. Think about that for a moment. A 2 hour drive to the location, a 3 hour session on location, and then back in the car for the 2 hour drive back home – often wet and tired. To work with me. Blows my mind every time.
I get questioned a lot by other photographers. Some are people just starting out and ask fairly basic questions while others are further along the experience spectrum and looking for more specific answers. They want to know more about this and that and I’m always willing to share. I have nothing to hide and, as long as I’m not literally in the middle of a session, I’m happy to answer.
Probably one of the most asked questions I get is “How do I know I made it?” Obviously making a solid living off the income generated by your business is the biggest indicator but there are others. For example, when people are willing to go way out of their way to work with you because they love your work, that’s a solid sign that you are doing something right and are well on your way.
People like Jollene reaffirm that what I’m doing is right. I can’t thank her enough and always want to give her my best effort as a thank you.
